Democrats set to host annual party

April 5, 2013

The Tama County Democrats will be holding their Garden Party on Sunday, April 14, at the Tama American Legion Hall beginning at noon.

The party, which has become an annual tradition for the organization, will be hosted at the hall at 1105 East 5th Street in Tama. Doors to the event open at noon, with the dinner beginning at 1 p.m.

Special guest speakers this year include some of the biggest names in local-and now even statewide-politics. U.S. Congressman Bruce Braley (IA-01), who recently announced his intention to run for the retiring Tom Harkin's vacant U.S. Senate seat, will be a featured speaker.

Iowa State Senator Steve Sodders will also be speaking. Sodders, who mulled a run at Braley's seat in the upcoming 2014 election, ultimately decided against it, releasing a statement this week (which can be seen on page 6 of this issue).

Iowa congressmen Tyler Olson, Pat Murphy and Mark Smith will be among the other legislators invited to speak at the event, along with Tama County Supervisors Dan Anderson and Kendall Jordan.

There will be a free will offering for the meal. For more information on the Garden Party or the Tama County Democrats, please contact Glen Salisbury at 319-476-7393, or go online at:
