A delicious dinner was served in honor of Gold Star members Audrey Babinat and Elsie Gates at the Traer Memorial Building by Karen Podhajsky, Irene Hanus, Arlene Schmidt and Kathy Manfull. 21 members and two guests attended. Guests were Molly Sell ("Miss Poppy") and Donna Kersten. Thank you all for coming and a big thank you to the hostesses.
We had a short meeting. The flags were placed. A prayer was said by Karen Podhajsky. We pledged allegiance to the flag and sang the Star-Spangled Banner. Arlene Schmidt reported on pillow cleaning. We had 23 customers and cleaned 61 pillows. It was a very blustery, rainy day. Karen Podhajsky reported that we had two new members. Thanks to Thelma Loutsch. We now have 117 members.
On May 15, we started poppy distributions on Main Street with Arlene Schmidt, Audrey Babinat, Molly Sell and her great-grandmother Verona Staker. Mayor Pete Holden received the first poppy from Molly and a picture was taken for the paper. We stopped at most of the businesses, people were very giving. In all, she brought in $188.
Irene Hanus was in charge of the poppy and deceased veterans display in the old auction building on Main Street.
Next meeting will be June 18 at the Memorial Building at 7 p.m. JoAnn Dunleavy and Sue Morrison will be hostesses.
All sang "America" and Karen read a closing prayer.
Vi Barge motioned to adjourn. Bingo was played. Everyone had a great time with many prizes to win.
Please wear your poppy with great pride and remember they are to represent the military and hour heroes who live and die to keep our country free. May God bless you all.
