Marvin L. Palmer, 97, of Dysart, passed away on June 23, 2013 of natural causes. Visitation was held at Overton Funeral Home in Dysart on Wednesday, June 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a service on Thursday, June 27 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church.
Marvin L. Palmer was born June 13, 1916, southwest of Dysart, IA, son of William and Elizabeth (Huppert) Palmer. He graduated from La Porte City High School in 1934 and was always proud of the fact he graduated from high school which was unusual at that time. On September 28, 1940 he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Siemens at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Marvin and Anna Mae made their home farming all their married life on a farm south of Dysart. Marvin was an active member of the Ascalon Lodge #393 since 1940. He also was a member of the, Order of Eastern Star, Dysart United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau and a former member of the Dysart Rural Fire Department Board. Marvin's death came at the Sunnycrest Care Center in Dysart on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the age of 97 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna Mae on February, 13, 2001, five brothers, Verian, Ted, Albert, Cliff and Dale, three sisters, Mae Kahn, Ruth Brandt and Thelma Anton. He is survived by two sons, Dick (Jo) Palmer of Dysart and Dr. Rick (Joan) Palmer of La Porte City, IA, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one sister LaVaun (Earl) Raub of Dysart and two sister-in-laws, Arlene Oster and Arlene Palmer.
