Legion Auxiliary hosts scouts

Kubik Finch Post #142, American Legion Auxiliary met at the Memorial Building on Tuesday, September 17 at 6 p.m. for the annual Membership Dinner Meeting with 21 members present. A delicious meal was served by the committee of Diane Owens, Verona Staker and Audrey Babinat.

Meeting began at 7 p.m. with colors advanced by Audrey Babinat and Arlene Schmidt. Prayer was given by Chaplain Karen Podhajsky, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, Preamble to the Constitution, Vacant Chair, and Star Spangled Banner. Officers' roll call was given with eight officers and board members present.

The boy scouts were present for their annual presentation to the unit. Speaking for the scouts were Caleb DeBoef and Chase Morrison, and scout leader Shellie Morrison. They gave an interesting talk about the many activities and volunteer work they do throughout the year. They also shared projects made and talked about the camps that they attend. They were presented with a donation by the unit after their talk.

Secretary's report was read by Karen Podhajsky. It was approved as read.

Treasurer's report was given. It will be placed on file until audit. 2013-2014 budget was read and approved. Motion was made for a bill by Kathy Manfull for ink used for the new books. Motion carried.

Thank yous were read by the Gladys Donnelly family for serving at the funeral dinner, and Katie Morrison for her education help check.

Third district supper subscription form is available for members for this year.

Audit report was given. Treasurer's books were audited by Verona Staker, and were OK. Membership goal for 2014 is 178. As of meeting night, we are at 77 for membership.

Poppy order to be increased to 900 small poppies and 630 large poppies. Order will be submitted by October 20th.

Tuesday, September 24th was Joint County Meeting at Clutier 7 p.m. A speaker from Cedar Rapids spoke on the Outreach Center.

The charter was draped in honor of Margaret Herink by President Diane Owens and Chaplain Karen Podhajsky.

Next meeting is Tuesday, October 15th at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Building. Special guests will be the girl scouts and Mayor Pete Holden. Membership report will also be given and Auxiliary Emergency Fund Report.

Prayer of Peace was read by the Chaplain, and God Bless America was sung by group. Meeting was adjourned and colors were retired.
