Church of Promise Open House Nov. 10

November 1, 2013
Traer Star-Clipper

The Church of Promise was founded in the autumn of 1997. The members origionally met at a park shelter, but as the weather began to get cooler, they started to meet in their homes. Soon after they began renting a farm house, services and sunday school were held here. At first the services were led by members of the congriation and or guest speakers.

On Easter Sunday in 1998 a special membership service was held with the origional joining members of the church. In November of 1998 Reverand Richard Ernst became pastor, and later added the assistant of Pastor Mark Jenkins. At this time the church knew they needed more space, they just didn't know exactly the right plans for this. They began tossing around the idea of builidng on the property which they were currently using the old farm house, But one of the origonal founding members the late Linda Yuska had a vision that the church would someday be build on the property where the old Geniseo school sits. The land was donated to the church and Linda's vision has become reality.

In March of 2012 members of the church put much thought and prayer into excatly what they should do. The buildings on the property were too far damaged to be remodeled and used for the church. They decided the best thing to do was to build a new building, on site of the old Genesio School, and the Lord would lead them as to what to do with the school building down the road. In April of 2012 the church had a 100% vote to build on the school property. By May the church had already hired Midwest Builders and discussed various building plans. As funds were raised they began to level the ground in preperation for the new Church. In July all of the poles were set, and the plans were in motion. Church members, and friends of the church all helped make this happen. By October all of the interiors walls were built, power was in the building. They continued to work hard all winter to get the inside finished.

The Church wanted to do a few special things while building their new facility. They began to read aloud through the entire Bible in February of 2013. When they had completed the reading, they placed the Bible safely in a location just infront of the altar. This way they can always, and literally, be standing on the promises of God. They also had every member of the church pick out their favorite Bible verse and write it on the cement floor before the carpeting. This is another represination of always standing on God's Word. The Building was completed in the spring of 2013. The churches current Pastor is Stuart Holsing of Cedar Falls, he was officially hired as pastor in November of last year. Stuart and his wife Janet have been in ministry for 24 years prior to his current role. Pastor Holsing stated that, "For Janet and I, who grew up on farms in Kansas and South Dakota, and attended rural churches, pastoring at the Church of Promise feels like coming back to our roots."

The Church of Promise would like to invite everyone to an open house on November 10th. A dedication service will be at 10AM, and the churchs orgional first full time pastor, Richard Ernst will be speaking. There will then be an open house from 2-4 pm with refreshments and fellowship for everyone.
