The Tama County Historical Society & Genealogical Library has launched a new website: www.tamacountyhistory.org.

The website will provide information about upcoming programs, new acquisitions, and photos from Tama County's past. There are also pages to help visitors become members or contact the historical society for research requests.

A special feature of the website is the "Images of Tama County's Past" page. The page includes a slideshow of photos from Tama County's past and a section with unidentified photos.

"These photos were all taken in and around Tama County," said Jason Staker, a historical society volunteer who is serving as webmaster. "The hope is people will visit the site and maybe see someone they know."

Staker says he hopes to expand the online photo album, adding more photos and the names of those who are identified.

"Anyone with unidentified photos from Tama County's past can email using the 'contact form' on the 'Photos' page and we can add them to the album," Staker said. "Hopefully it will encourage people to take a look and find a familiar face from their own family history."

The website is an ongoing project, so people are encouraged to check back to see what's new.

"This won't be a static website," Staker said. "We want it to evolve and change, with more photos, more information, and more ways to connect people to local history."
