Traer Library news & notes - 01/17/14

January 17, 2014
Traer Star-Clipper

The Tuesday class is full, but due to the nature of the class - being more information driven than hands on, we can include a few more, just let me know. We have canceled the Saturday class as not enough had signed up for that session.

If one of your New Year's resolution was to learn a language, or to learn anything to help stay on top of your mental faculties, you will want to take a look at "Tell Me More." Tell Me More is an online language program, you can choose to learn French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, German or American or British English, moving at your own pace. The program includes feedback on your accent and pronunciation along with vocabulary and sentence structure. The link is available on our website, or email me for assistance.

We have added 6 new titles to our exercise DVD section, bringing our total to 28 DVDs. This is a good way to see if you like a certain style of exercise or specific person's voice as they yell at you (or encourage you) to move more, before you buy the DVD yourself. These DVDs may be checked out for a week at a time. Also, if you have any yourself that you no longer use, we would gladly accept them as donations to add to our collection.

Ambrose Family Benefit: The Ambrose's, a family of four, lost their home in a house fire in early December. The Ambrose Family Benefit will be held Sunday, January 19 from 10:30am-1:30pm at the Traer Memorial Building. There will be a baked potato/walking taco bar with free will donations accepted. There will also be a silent auction ending at 1:00pm and a 50/50 raffle.

Return the Favor Annual Quilt Making Event: Saturday, January 25 from 9:00am to 4:30pm at the Traer Memorial Building, 414 2nd Street. The 2014 Raffle Quilt is on display at the library - tickets are $1.00 each, tickets are available at the library, Roan, Powell & Reinders law office and at the door during the event. During the day, volunteers will be making quilts for seriously ill, the needy, veterans and more. Food is potluck and there will be hourly drawings. Everyone is invited, all skill levels needed - lots of jobs do not require sewing experience.

The Herrlinger Family Concert at the Traer Public Library Kupka Center at 6:30pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Bill & Cathy and their seven children enjoy sharing in song and testimony. Their music includes a variety of traditional hymns, original songs, gospel bluegrass and folk style, a capella and instrumental arrangements all with the purpose of lifting up the Lord Jesus Christ.
