Last month the 5th grade class at North Tama did a unit on water in reading and writing. Students studied water in its many forms. They discussed how we have a limited supply of drinking water. We did many activities and read many articles about how the water that we do have needs to be conserved. The students came up with methods that they could do to help save our water. Students wrote and played games involving water. The students had to be a water molecule and travel through the water cycle and journal about it. They also read the Lorax and wrote a second part to it. Students listened to the book One Well. In this book it discusses how much water other parts of the world uses. Students were amazed how much more water we used here than in other areas of the world. I believe the students are more aware of the problems with water than when we started. It is important that our youth know to conserve water so we have it for years to come.
