Enthusiastic readers from North Tama's seventh grade TAG program recently competed in the Battle of the Books competition by reading and studying 40 selected books from varied authors, genres, time periods, and cultures. It's a big task, but the students worked together to collectively read the titles-meaning each student read a portion of the list. The Traer Public Library kindly assisted the girls by purchasing some of the books that the school's 7-12 library did not own.
Members of the North Tama Battle of the Books team were: Karly Jans, Molly Kvidera, Emma Scherrer, and Hailey Stover. Brenda Jensen, K-12 TAG Coordinator and Librarian, was their advisor.
Team members attended the regional competition at Area Education Agency 267 in Cedar Falls on April 16. They competed on short answer and oral tests. The competition required persistence and study. Although the girls felt it was time-consuming to read so many books, they enjoyed the opportunity to compete doing something they loved.
The girls were one of three teams to win a “Teamwork” award for their work during the written test in Cedar Falls. Pictured above are (L to R): Hailey Stover, Karly Jans, Molly Kvidera and Emma Scherrer.
BOB is open to students in grades 3 through middle school.
