At the April City Council Meeting Mayor Pete Holden proclaimed that May 3, 2014 shall be known as Gracie Lidgett Day in Traer.
Grace was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of one. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections, and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
By God's grace and a host of medications and treatments Grace is a spunky, energetic 3rd grader who loves soccer, music, dance, beautiful dresses and all things pink! Friends and family, also known as Gracie's Group, will be sponsoring a fundraising FUN DAY in the 300 block of 2nd Street from 3-8 pm on Saturday, May 3rd (inclement weather day May 10th). You are invited to join them for food, games, and music with proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (www.cff.org) to help fund research in the quest for a cure.
Dip into your pockets and piggy banks and head to main street! Scheduled activities will include Kid's Carnival games, pork burgers and snacks , beer garden, live music by Fox Ridge Boys and Smokin' Guns, and a bean bag tournament.
We hope to see you there! Please come and support Grace and help fund research for a cure.
