I recently had the privilege of accompanying the North Tama High School band to Cleveland, Ohio and New York City as their substitute band director.
Forty students and ten chaperones traveled 12 hours by bus to perform at and tour the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Then another 8 hours on the bus to perform on the USS Intrepid and tour many places in New York City. Our group saw the Broadway musical The Phantom of the Opera, visited the 911 Memorial, Rockefeller Center, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Chinatown and Times Square. When it was time to head home, another 20 hour bus ride.
It was truly a wonderful experience for everyone involved! Our band students were extremely well-behaved, responsible and respectful the entire trip. Our tour director from Michigan who traveled with us, told the group that in the 15 years he had been leading student tours, our North Tama students were the best he had worked with. Their parents, teachers and the entire North Tama community should be very proud of them!
It was a pleasure for myself and the other chaperones to be with them on this well-deserved trip! Many thanks to everyone who has had a part in shaping such fantastic and talented kids!
Special thanks to North Tama's band teacher, Mrs. Channing Halstead, for putting the trip together and preparing the band to play such great music!
