Traer Community Foundation grants

The Traer Community Foundation Board of Directors has announced the 2014 disbursements for a total $37,302.00

This is the 22nd year of awarding grants, and the Foundation's gifts to the community now total $549,000 including the 2014 grants.

These are the community betterment projects by non-profit organizations, that received funds this year:

Christian Hands Across Traer (Safety net for Families-Food, Clothes, Heat etc.) $2,000.00

Emergency Food Pantry of NE Tama County (Food & Supplies for Food Pantry-Traer residents) $2,000.00

North Tama Activity Center (Retrofit & install new florescent lights in main room) $2,000.00

North Tama BASIC (Video & sound system, graphics and generator) $3,800.00

North Tama Community School (Establish a Visiting Author Program) $750.00

North Tama Community School - After Prom (Prizes & games for After Prom activities) $500.00

North Tama Community School Athletics Department (North Tama Athletic Complex bathroom renovation) $2,000.00

North Tama Community School -Elementary (Field Trips Gallagher Bluedorn & BH Children's Theatre) $1,486.00

North Tama Community School Elementary (Summer School Scholarships) $1,500.00

North Tama Community School FCCLA (FCCLA National Leadership Conference)$1,000.00

North Tama Community School Junior High (Compact scales and triple beam balances) $1,050.00

North Tama Community School Lego League (Registration for Competition and field kit) $300.00

North Tama Community School (Space Camp Scholarships)$500.00

North Tama Community School-TAG (Funding for PSAT and ACT tests) $216.00

Pied Piper Preschool & Childcare, Inc. (Demolish old cement play area & install new 20'x30" cement)$1,700.00

Steel Shooters of Traer (Travel expenses for state and national competition) $1,000.00

Traer Aquatic Center (Construction expenses of new pool) $7,000.00

Traer Boy Scouts (Summer camp) $250.00

Traer Chamber of Commerce (Taylor Park Christmas decorations & Holiday Happening Exp.) $1,500.00

Traer Ecumenical Vacation Bible School (Crafts, T-Shirts & Biblical keepsakes) $1,000.00

Traer Fire Department (Replace hydraulic fitting on rescue tools) $2,750.00

Traer Theatre Inc. (Replace bulb for digital projector) $2,000.00

Winding Stairs Festival (Purchase EZ up pyramid Red Canopy & recycling containers) $1,000.00

All gifts made to the Foundation qualify as charitable donations for the donor, and are recognized as such by the Internal Revenue Service. This gives donors the ability to donate to the community of Traer and avoid federal and state income, estate and gift taxes on those contributions.

Gifts to the Foundation may be made in cash, appreciated securities, real estate, pledges, deferred gifts (such as life insurance proceeds or bequests through wills), or charitable remainder trusts.

The Foundation will receive and accept properties and gifts for the benefit of Traer and its citizens, and will distribute those gifts to community organizations such as those named above, either as the donor directs the funds to be spent, or as the Foundation's Board of Directors select.

Board members for 2014 include: Nick Podhajsky, chairman, represents the Farmers Savings Bank & Trust; Robert Young, vice-chairman represents the North Tama County Community School; Chad Taylor, represents the Kubik-Finch American Legion Post of Traer; Wendy Barnes, represents the Traer Chamber of Commerce and Carrie Holst, represents the Traer City Council. Bruce Reinders serves as secretary for the Foundation and the Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, Traer serves as Trustee.
