Buckingham Boosters get grant

The Buckingham Boosters 4-H club has received a grant from DuPont Pioneer to complete their community service project of refurbishing the Baseball/Gator Garage at the North Tama Athletic Complex. As a part of our learning process our club members went to C.N.C Lumber in Dysart to find out more information about the supplies needed to refurbish the storage shed at the North Tama Athletic Complex. While there club members learned about the supplies they will need and looked at different types and pieces of siding. They also learned that wood is measured and cut in sizes like 2x4, 4x6, that wood is sold in bunks. A bunk is the bundle or quantity of wood that the lumber yard purchases to then break up and sell to it's customers. Chad Sammons with C.N.C Lumber talked with us about the role their business plays in the community and what they could do to help us with our project. He showed us around the lumberyard and we learned about their delivery services with the large delivery truck that can carry a "piggy back" forklift. The club members had lots of questions and it was fun the learn more about this local business.
