Monday morning the Tama County Board of Supervisors, Dan Anderson, Kendall Jordan and Larry Vest visited with Sue Tufte, advocate for Marshall and Tama Counties for Victim Services and Angie Shreck who is with Access a new victim service association in Tama County. These ladies introduced themselves and addressed their positions. They stated Access (Assault Care Center) arose from the need to confront and combat the issues of sexual assault and domestic violence. The agency began in 1973 in Story County. Originally this was a rape crisis center, and then services were expanded over the years to include a 24-hour crisis hotline and shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children. In 1981 they opened their first shelter facility, a place where survivors and children could share a safe environment and more readily receive the services their growing staff and volunteers were ready to provide. ACCESS continues a domestic abuse program, a sexual assault program and a shelter. ACCESS serves Boone, Greene, Marshall, Story and Tama Counties.
ACCESS services are free and confidential. The business office phone number is 515-292-0500.
