Traer Star-Clipper

Cameron Hoeg notched the second-highest single-game strikeout performance for a pitcher in Iowa this season, retiring 17 would-be Northeast Hamilton hitters himself in North Tama's 4-1 win over the Trojans Friday night in Iowa Star Conference play.

Hoeg surrendered just three hits in the complete-game performance. He did not walk a batter and the Trojans' lone run was unearned to the sophomore hurler. Hoeg also had one of North Tama's four hits, a double, as the Redhawks (10-1, 7-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four innings.

Brody Hulme went 1-for-2 with an RBI double and a run scored, Riley Rohach singled and scored, and Cael Kopriva had a single as well.

Just two days prior, the North Tama baseball team notched its third and fourth straight wins with Wednesday's doubleheader sweep of Tripoli (2-7, 1-6) in Iowa Star Conference play.

The Redhawks won both games shy of the full seven innings, taking the opener 12-0 in five frames and the nightcap 11-1 in six.

Caden Stuart threw eight innings all told without allowing an earned run. He struck out nine and walked one amidst his no-hitter in the first game, and then surrendered one hit and an unearned run in the first three innings of the second game. Will Earley got the win in the nightcap, allowing just two hits while striking out five over the final three frames.

Cameron Hoeg led the offense, going 3-for-6 on the night with a double, two stolen bases and three RBIs. In the first game, Riley Rohach was 1-for-2 with three runs and five stolen bases, while Joe Earley was 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

In game two, Brody Hulme finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Stuart was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Redhawk baseball team continues to win, sweeping the week, winning all five games. The word is out about the North Tama pitching staff, which leads Class A in earned run average of 0.37. The Redhawks ERA is currently second to Pella in all four classes. The Redhawks have a 1-2-3 punch in pitchers Brody Hulme, Cameron Hoeg and Caden Stuart. North Tama is 10-1 overall and 7-0 in Iowa Star conference play, tied with Don Bosco. Senior Brody Hulme leads the team of just three active upperclassmen. Hulme currently is batting .567 and is 3-0 on the hill with an ERA of 0.00. Junior Caden Stuart has a batting average of .438. Stuart has pitched in seven of the eleven games, earning a win and three saves. Junior Riley Rohach is having a break out season as the Redhawks lead-off man. Rohach is batting .375, has an on-base percentage of .556, and is among the state leaders in stolen bases with 15. Sophomore Cameron Hoeg leads the Redhawks in innings pitched and has a record of 4-0 and an ERA of 0.25. Sophomore catcher Cael Kopriva contributes to the offense, batting .381 and has a .561 on-base percentage.
