Duane R. Heller, 90

Duane Robert Heller, 90, of Johnston and formerly of Dysart, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown. Burial will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Dysart Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Dysart American Legion.

Duane Robert Heller was born on September 2, 1925, in Grundy Center, the son of Jess Henry and Clara Lorraine (Young) Heller. Duane graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1943. He the entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge, Duane returned to Grundy Center where he met Janette Junge. Duane and Janette were united in marriage on June 16, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. Duane then continued his education at Pitzie's School of Beauty in Waterloo. He then owned and operated his own beauty shop in Dysart for many years and also worked for Redken Products for five years. In 1978, Duane and Janette moved to Johnston where he worked as an instructor as Sal's Beauty School and also worked part time in a local shop. He is survived by a son, Robert "Bob" Heller of Johnston; a sister; and a brother. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janette on May 21, 2003; four brothers; and a sister.
