Blanche E. Mannel, 100

Blanche E. Mannel, 100, of Traer, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer with a service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will occur at St. Paul Catholic Church Cemetery.

Blanche Edna Mannel was born on August 27, 1915, in rural Buckingham, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Kadmas) Yuska. She grew up on the family farm near Buckingham and graduated from Geneseo High School in 1933. On June 14, 1939, Blanche was united in marriage to Ernest Mannel. The couple farmed near Buckingham where Blanche was Ernest's right hand assistant. She helped on the farm with planting with horses to driving modern-day tractors. In 1978, the couple retired and moved to Traer. Blanche was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening and preserving, raising chickens, and fishing. Blanche and Ernest enjoyed sight-seeing, traveling throughout Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, as well as following their daughter's and grandchildren's school activities. Blanche died at the age of 100 on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Sunrise Hill Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernest, who died on the same day 20 years earlier; and two sisters. Blanche is survived by two daughters, Marlene Beenken of Traer and Doris Williams of Hudson; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a God-son.
