Marvin H. Ohrt, 91

Marvin Henry Ohrt was born on March 25, 1925, near Gladbrook, Iowa, the son of C. M. Henry and Mary (Busch) Ohrt. He grew up around Gladbrook, Traer and Clutier and attending country schools. He attended two years of high school in Traer and graduated from Dysart High School. On June 3, 1944, Marvin was united in marriage to Manetta Havran. The couple made their homes on farms in the Dysart and Clutier area. Marvin farmed for 45 years, raising purebred Polled Hereferd cattle and selling seed. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart, the Clutier Lions Club, Thrivent Church Fraternal, Western Fraternal Life Association ZCBJ Lodge #104, served on the Mutual Insurance Board for 30 years, and was a president and director on several Polled Hereferd associations in the state. Marvin was also a 4H leader, Sunday School superintendant and teacher, and was inducted into the state Polled Hereferd Hall of Fame. He enjoyed showing cattle, going to cattle sales, raising his son and daughter to be hard-working citizens, and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up. Marvin died at the age of 91 on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Andrew Suchanek; a grand son in law, Duane Raue; two sisters, Caroline Petersen and Arlene Terbl; and two brothers, Calvin and Leonard Ohrt. Marvin is survived by a son, Royce (Glenda) Ohrt of Montezuma; a daughter, Verona (Andy) Suchanek of Tama; a sister, Phyllis Wessely of Waterloo; a sister in law, Nadine Vorba of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
