Iola V. Petersen, 95

Iola Virginia Petersen was born on February 7, 1921, in Garwin, the daughter of Cyril Glenn Daugherty and Mary Ethel DuToit. She attended grade school at Garwin through the eighth grade and then went on to work as a house keeper for the Sam Martin family of rural Traer. She met I.O. Richardson, who was a farm hand for Sam Martin. They were married on February 15, 1941, in Lancaster, Missouri. The couple lived in the Traer area and raised two children, Michael and Dale. In 1966, they moved to Marshalltown where Iola worked as a baker at the Iowa Veteran's Home. Iola and I.O. were divorced in 1966. In 1991, she married Aksel Petersen of Traer where she resided until her death at the age of 95 on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Sunrise Hill Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, I.O. Richardson in 1983; her second husband; Aksel Petersen in 2008; her parents; and a brother, Everett Daugherty. Iola is survived by two sons, Michael of Tama and Dale of Reinbeck; a sister, Mildred Estel of Marshalltown; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
