Hoeg, Earley earn Second, Third Team All-State baseball honors

The Iowa Newspaper Association announced its 2017 All-State Baseball selections last Tuesday, selecting first, second, third teams and team captains for classes 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A.

Cameron Hoeg of North Tama was named to the Class 1A Second Team. Hoeg led the Redhawks with a .440 batting average, three HR and a team-high 43 RBI. Hoeg also stole 10 bases and struck out just twice in the Redhawks' 25-5 campaign. Hoeg also went 7-2 on the mound with a 0.79 ERA and a team-high 86 strikeouts.

Will Earley was named to the Class 1A Third Team for his efforts on the mound for North Tama after posting an 8-1 record with a 1.14 ERA. Earley pitched a team-high 59 2/3 innings and had an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio with 66 strikeouts and just 12 walks. On the offensive side, Earley batted .279 with 20 RBI.

The four seniors selected as team captains were 4A Jack Dreyer, Johnston; 3A Trenton Wallace, Davenport, Assumption; 2A Riley LeGrand, Beckman, Dyersville and 1A Ben Fitzgerald, Newman Catholic, Mason City.
