Lorraine Gethmann, 90, of Gladbrook, IA, passed away Wednesday, August 02, 2017, at Westbrook Acres, in Gladbrook. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the Gladbrook United Methodist Church, in Gladbrook. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m., Eastern Star service, Friday, August 4, 2017, at the Gladbrook United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Gethmann Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. The Gladbrook Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com

Lorraine was born November 19, 1926, in Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of Emil Carl and Alma Emma (Goerler) Ehrle. She was raised in the Amana Colonies and lived her early years in the Communal System which ended in 1932. Both high and low German was spoken in the community, at home, and church. Lorraine graduated from Chillicothe Commercial College, Chillicothe, Missouri. She worked as a secretary in the engineering department at Amana Refrigeration for several years. Lorraine married Ivan Gethmann on June 19, 1948, and celebrated 51 years of marriage. They made their home in Homestead one year before moving to Gladbrook where they remained. Lorraine was an active member of the Gladbrook United Methodist Church and served as a circle leader. Lorraine was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Olivene Chapter No. 326. Also, a member of Eu-Cha-Rest Temple No. 68, Daughters of the Nile. She was a 50-year member of American Legion Auxiliary. Lorraine was past president of Alpha Study Club and held numerous offices in Women's Club. She was a past president of Republican Study Club and a Cub Scout Den Mother. Lorraine was a past president of P.T.A. and served on the Music Mothers' Board. She was a volunteer worker and board member of MACH Hospital Auxiliary in Marshalltown. She and Ivan enjoyed golf, bridge, traveling, and political activities. Lorraine loved collecting antiques, entertaining, and was generous in sharing her love of cooking.

Her family includes son Cornell W. Gethmann and his wife, Cathy, of Gladbrook, and granddaughter Cara Gethmann, and son Reed E. Gethmann, Fairmont, Minnesota, a niece and family, Tamara and Robert Sanders, Roanoke, Virginia, and son Rob and Laura Sanders, Seattle Washington. Also several cousins and sister-in-law Maryls White.
