Wendell J. Althof, 86

Wendell James Althof was born March 5, 1931, in New Hampton, Iowa, son of Ludwig and Emma (Weber) Althof. He graduated with the Waterloo East High School Class of 1951. Wendell served his country in the United States Navy. He was married to Sandra Marie Mayne on August 30, 1974. Wendell worked for the Tama Benton Cooperative, then Terry's Foods, and owned Coffee Shop in Dysart retiring at 65 years of age. He enjoyed a quiet life with his family. Wendell was a Cubs fan and his loyalty paid off when he watched them win the 2016 World Series!

Wendell passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017, at the age of 86 years at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; and 2 brothers, Kenneth and Francis. Wendell is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra; his son Mark (Lisa) Althof of Dysart; his daughter, Bridget Sands of Indiana; 6 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ron (Georgia) Althof of Omaha, NE; and his beloved cat, Oliver.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Dysart Ambulance Service.
