Hello there

April 13, 2018
CJ Eilers - Editor (cjeilers@traerstarclipper.com) , Traer Star-Clipper

My name is CJ Eilers and I have the pleasure of being the new Editor for both the Dysart Reporter and Traer Star-Clipper. I am eager to begin and excited to promote both communities through the papers full-time. My hope right away is to be approachable and learn about what makes Dysart and Traer unique. The job of these papers is to inform the public on what's going on or what's going to happen, and I take that job seriously.

I originally hail from Ankeny, where I graduated from Ankeny High School in 2010. Honestly, I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do with my life, so I attended Des Moines Area Community College for two years to find out. It was on a campus visit that I noticed their small college newspaper, The Campus Chronicle, and was curious to try out the class. Next thing I knew, I'm a staff writer and later would serve as Editor-In-Chief of the paper. I decided to continue down the journalsm path at Iowa State University, working for the Iowa State Daily and SIR, a mens magazine on campus. Both publications allowed me to explore news coverage, but mainly entertainment reporting, which I was intent on pursuing. I graduated from Iowa State with my major in Journalism and minor in History in December of 2014. For the next year, I waited tables and was always looking for my first journalism job.

My first reporting oppurtunity came with The News-Review in Keokuk County, where I lived in county seat of Sigourney. For two wonderful years, I covered county news for The News-Review and its sister paper, The Keota Eagle. My duties consisted of covering five school districts, attend city meetings, reporting on the county and write about the people in those communities. I enjoyed learning what it takes to be journalist with this position and made lots of memories I won't soon forget.

When I'm not working, I enjoy good food, spending time with family and friends and have begun exploring photography outside of work. I hope to work with some 2019 seniors for their senior photography and other personal photography needs.

As Editor, I plan to take what worked in Sigourney and slowly apply it here to better cover North Tama and Union School Districts and both communities. I cannot promise sweeping changes overnight, but I will do my best to learn quickly and efficiently to better serve our readership. Any suggestions or tips are welcomed and I look forward to getting to know these communities better. Thank you for reading. Say hi if you see me around!
