Kaufmann in big-time tournament

December 7, 2012

Noah Kaufmann is only in the eighth grade - but he's already competing for a national championship. Kaufmann, who attends North Tama schools and plays nose guard, was recently selected to Team Iowa at this year's FBU National Championship.

The tournament, which features 64 state-based teams made up of the best 7th- and 8th-grade athletes from around the country, selects only 35 players from each region during FBU tryouts.

After an opening-round win on December 1 in West Des Moines, the boys from Team Iowa followed up with another victory and are now in the round of 16. This weekend, they will compete in Kansas City, Missouri, with the chance to advance to the championship in San Antonio, Texas, in January.

The tournament also includes a SportsCenter-style studio show hosted by announcer Neil Sika, and more information is available on the web at www.footballuniversity.org.
