Dean M. Jellings, 85, of Traer, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 15, 2014. Service will be held at Central Christian Church in Waterloo on Thursday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior. Burial will follow at Dunham Grove Cemetery in Randalia, Iowa.
Dean Max Jellings was born on April 2, 1929, in West Union, Iowa, the son of Benjamin Lee and Bessie (Davis) Jellings. Dean graduated from Randalia High School. After graduation, he served in the US Navy from November 1948 to October 1952. After an Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Dean attended and graduated from Upper Iowa University. After college, he lived in Minnesota and California for many years. Dean married Norma Michaud in 1967 and adopted a son, Kevin. They divorced in 1975. In 1987, he married Marilyn Wood Dinsdale. Dean farmed in the Randalia area most of his life and worked seasonal agriculture jobs. He was a life-long member of the Randalia Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge Consistery and Shrine. Dean enjoyed his life by being with his family and friends. He also enjoyed the anticipation of the birth of a paint colt each Spring. Raising colts and his love for horses was passed on to his step granddaughter, Amanda. Dean died at his home at the age of 85 on Sunday, June 15, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Gordon and Marjorie Wescott. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a son, Kevin; two step daughters, Jodi McConaughy and Susan L'Allier; a step son, Craig Dinsdale; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
